What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a research-based approach to understanding behavior and learning. It helps children build meaningful skills by breaking down complex tasks into smaller, teachable steps—and reinforcing progress along the way.

At The Behavior Lighthouse, we use ABA to create personalized learning plans that help children grow in areas that matter most to their everyday lives. ABA is not “one-size-fits-all.” Every child’s program is tailored to their unique needs, strengths, and family goals.

ABA Therapy can help your child master skills in the following domains:

  • Communication and Language

  • Daily Living Skills

  • Social Skills

  • Play Skills

  • Managing Challenging Behaviors

  • Functional Life Skills

  • School Readiness

ABA is about progress, not perfection.
We meet each child where they are and help them take steady steps forward—celebrating every win along the way.

ABA therapy uses several strategies (such as Positive Reinforcement) to teach the above skills. Evidence-based practices are often compiled into a Behavior Support Plan to reduce interfering behaviors and replace them with more adaptive skills.

Positive Reinforcement

At The Behavior Lighthouse ABA Therapy, we use Positive Reinforcement. Positive reinforcement means recognizing and rewarding helpful behaviors so they’re more likely to happen again. Instead of focusing on what a child is doing “wrong,” we focus on encouraging what they’re doing right.

This might look like:

  • Giving praise when a child uses their words instead of crying

  • Providing a favorite toy after following a direction

  • Offering a high-five or break when they try something new

Why It Works:

Children learn best when they feel encouraged, safe, and successful. By celebrating progress—big or small—we help them build confidence and motivation to keep going.

Our team uses reinforcement strategies that are gentle, ethical, and tailored to your child’s preferences, ensuring learning feels like a positive and empowering experience.
